28th May 1998, a day written as Pakistan entered into the arm race.
Baluchistan: Chagai – I is named after the first nuclear test in the era of Nawaz Sharif regime which made Pakistan the seventh nation out of eight to publicly test nuclear weapons. The nuclear test was a straight and clear response to India who tested its Pokhran II test on 11 May 1998. The reaction was needed at that time in view of perpetual stress between Pakistan and India. A public nuclear test made by Pakistan was a lucid message that Pakistan is prepared for any kind of distressful situation which might have been created by India. The Chagai- I was tested in Baluchistan in the region Peer Koh Hills. The place was allocated after the rigorous analysis of the land by the geographical team to observe any side effects of the test.
The scientific team included in the development and executing the plan of Chagai-I were Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), the Kahuta Research Laboratories (KRL) and the Pakistan Army Corps of Engineers (PACE). The famous scientist behind the engineering team Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan was associated with KRL at that time.
Every year Pakistan remembers and celebrates this day as the Day of Greatness and Achievement with a clear message to the world. Pakistan promotes peace on every forum but in the unfavorable time it possesses the ability to defend the dignity of the land too.
