A Tale of a Tharparker Female Truck Driver: Perceptions and Stereotypes

Nusrat is counted as one of a dozen women who drive a truck weighing 60 tons, running her house and making a living. These bold and confident women are breaking stereotypes of the society and help to change the perceptions and roles of women. Women not only make home but she is also a bread maker in todays’ society. Nusrat Taj is also breaking the barriers and working to meet the conventional demands. She drives the 60-tonne truck in the largest coal mine of Pakistan. She said that she was afraid when saw a huge truck but now she is comfortable, driving truck is not the source of income for her, she said, but it’s all about challenging traditions. Nusrat further added that my job never abstains me from doing household chores, I fetched water, cooked food, washed clothes and did outside/inside work. I feel myself empowered, confident and a responsible person of a village. Women like her are the example for society making both lives balanced.
