Twitter: Pakistan is the fastest growing country in generating income through online sources, called freelance work. Freelance income has contributed more than $ 1 trillion per year in the last few years. However, the income is not subject to tax and exempted from any type of taxation. Recent government is planning to increase the tax base and aim to include freelancers into the tax bracket. The rumors intensified when no statement was made in an attempt to refute. However, government officials also did not verify the claim yet. It is also noted that in February 2022, Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan announced zero tax for the freelance community and appreciated the IT industry which generated around $216.788 million by e-exporting their services. Since for the IMF bailout package, the existing government needs to increase the tax base, IT services-oriented companies are expecting and feared of coming into the tax net.
